Week 3 - Timelapse

When digital and physical worlds collide

When the digital and the physical world collide, there is huge potential for the implementation of a technology to fail. It can be due to software restrictions, technical or technological problems or because the human makes errors when using it.

Here we have wonderful example of a registration process that used QR code reading to verify attendance. We can clearly see that people stand around, searching for their online ticket and hindering others to proceed. The flow of the process is disturbed and interrupted multiple times.

In addition to that, it seems that 2-3 people are necessary to handle this process. Also, attendees need to enter their data again manually in case something went wrong beforehand or in case s/he did not sign up digitally. The use of complement devices (laptop) is necessary to assure the fluency of the process.

Is technology always the better choice..? Only when it really adds value in replacing on complementing a product to become better or different.
